DENVER – IBI’s Fort Collins MAX Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project has won the 2014 Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS) Colorado Large Innovative Transportation Solution award.

Working as prime sub-consultant to Michael Baker Jr. Inc., IBI Group provided planning, feasibility studies, design, transit station architecture, transportation planning, and intelligent systems engineering for the system, located adjacent to busy College Avenue in Fort Collins, 65 miles north of Denver.

The Mason Corridor BRT system has been integrated into the city’s master plan to improve overall access, mobility and circulation for automobile users, pedestrians, and bicyclists who travel along the busy corridor.

The system is five miles long and operates in mixed traffic for two miles in downtown Fort Collins, and then for the remaining three miles in a dedicated guideway between South Mason Street and the BNSF rail right-of-way.

“I am very proud to have been a part of this project and thrilled to be honoured at this year’s WTS Awards Ceremony,” said Roxanne Jacobson, IBI Group architect on the project. “It was an exciting experience being part of the design team for the Mason Corridor MAX BRT.”

“Fort Collins, being a college town, is vibrant, innovative, and full of busy commuters,” she added. “The system provides a quick, easy, and affordable way to connect people to their destinations. The shelter designs developed along the corridor allowed for a unique yet recognizable identity for each of the 12 stops. Each station really reflects the history and importance of its surroundings.”

WTS is an international organization dedicated to building the future of transportation through the global advancement of women. The annual awards honor transportation projects featuring multi-modal collaboration, women in leadership roles, and significance in the region.

The WTS award will be accepted by Erika Keeton, City of Fort Collins, along with Roxanne and also Peter Zurawel, IBI Group Director, at the awards dinner to be held January 29 at the Denver Marriott City Centre.
